Background and Development

Because the Moray Game Jam wasn't running in 2020, I decided to have my own. The theme of Stories untold / retold was released as usual with 48 hours to complete the project. As a team, we agreed to create a game where the player would work for a dictatorship.

The government is restricting the flow of information to its citizens, and the players job is to censor information. At the start of each day, the player is issued a brief and must censor all information of a specific type (military / religious or political). The game was inspired by a similar themed game: ‘Papers Please’

I was responsible for creating the TV mini game using C# as well as creating all 3D models / animations for the rest of the game. As usual, sound effects were sourced from Freesound.org and remixed using Audacity.

Popular?

The same day as completing the Jam, I uploaded the files to Itch.io for the public to play. Over a few weeks, the game did fairly well being the second most popular web game for a period of time.

As of writing, here are some other figures:

  • 1040 Browser Plays
  • 131 file downloads (.exe / .apk / .app)
  • Added to 78 Collections
Itch Webpage
Check out misinformation! Over 83 000 games available on Itch.io for the web platform, and ours was at the number 2 spot.
